ICT Functional Skills reach critical mass

The ICT Functional Skills have now been fully integrated into the new GCSE specifications for first teaching in September 2010. These skills constitute more than half of a GCSE specification, making them a crucial element of GCSE achievement. Furthermore, their inclusion as a compulsory element of the new Diploma, and their being available as a stand alone qualification, further signifies their importance to today’s learners.

NWLG Functional ICT resources

Although essential, ICT Functional Skills can be dry and quite frankly boring for a number of learners. Many of these skills describe things that have to be done practically, but cannot be done in a classroom.

To meet this challenge, the Functional ICT resources contain numerous interactive activities and tasks designed to engage and motivate the learner. The pioneering Skills Street isometric environment provides an interactive and colourful setting in which learners can explore and develop many of the practical skills required for the ICT Functional Skills.

The resources attributes include:

  • Full coverage of the ICT Functional Skills Levels 1 and 2
  • Engaging interactive activities
  • Interactive software tutorials
  • Isometric learning environments
  • Authored by practicing teachers and coded by professional developers

A significant selection of resources is available to review in the sample resources site. The highlighted menus are live and ready to use. The sample resource site can be found by clicking on the link below (Opens in a new windows)
